Match report:

A typical start to the District season, a damp day, after weeks of sun shine had the Managers and Ground staff somewhat stressed by 10.30. The grounds man Baz Norden did a great job to get the wickets up and running at West Buckland for two district games.

The North having lost seven players to other sports, drafted in two non squad players and an U13 district player were expecting a difficult day. The trend of bad luck continued as we lost the toss and headed out to bat in less than ideal conditions and light. Billy Searle dug in early and played some super shots with others, although not high scoring, giving him valiant support at the other end. Notably Joe Southon with a steady partnership which lasted a number of overs. The West, of necessity, kept a largely defensive field throughout. After a brief stop for rain, the North were all out for 140.

After tea the North started well with the key wicket of Dan Ackford being taken for only 2 runs – bowled Witheridge caught Ansell. A tight, effective, attacking field and some superb bowling kept the West batsmen at the crease. Excellent safe hands from Ansell with four catches and only one bye past Harrison- Hooton kept the West scores very low 49 for 7. North continued to keep up the pressure and some great bowling from Searle, Ansell and Atkinson meant that the West were 66 for 9. The tail end batsmen for the West, C. O’Higgins and J. Webber put up a valiant effort, playing some great shots to carry the West to 90 before the last wicket fell. Many thanks to the West players, parents and management for their graciousness and sporting attitude throughout.
